Best seats in the Airbus A320
This is the best place to sit in an Airbus continental jet
The well-known Airbus A320 is widely used and is operated by almost all airlines, especially on continental flights. Some airlines have different seating arrangements to those shown here, but the schematic overview gives you a good impression of where the best seats are located in the aircraft:
Advantages and disadvantages of the seats in the Airbus A320
In the overview you will find a schematic list of all seats in the Airbus A320 in the standard configuration. The aircraft generally has a Business Class category in rows 1 to 5, where the middle seat is usually left empty and equipped with a table. If you have booked Business Class, we recommend seats 1A and 1F. More legroom than the rest of the seats, a great view in front of the wings, the shortest way to the toilet and the first row for drinks and snacks.
Between rows 5 and 6, Business is separated from Economy by a curtain. Some airlines also offer special categories in the first rows behind this, otherwise Economy Class is located from row 6 onwards in the Airbus A320. In the following list, we explain the significance of the presentation:
- Rows 1 to 5: Business Class, the best seats. With many airlines, you can book these with relatively low surcharges compared to other aircraft or upgrade them shortly before departure.
- Rows 6 to 8: Basically, you are still sitting in front of the wings here and therefore have the option of a window in seats A and F (shown in blue with a view to the outside). The remaining seats are quite good, as nobody from Business Class comes to the back and it is therefore usually relatively quiet. Here, too, you are the first row for catering from the front. However, it is the longest way to the toilets at the back.
- Rows 9 and 10: In the standard configuration, the wings start from row 9. In other words, you can't see anything here if you have a window seat. However, these are the seats where it is quietest due to turbulence, as this is where the aircraft's centre of gravity is located.
- Rows 11 and 12: The emergency exit doors are located in these two rows. There is more legroom here. These seats are therefore very popular with taller people outside Business Class. However, there is no visibility, but they are quieter in turbulence, as in the rows before. However, there are also A320s with only one emergency exit door (row 12), but these usually have fewer than 32 rows of seats, as otherwise the safety regulations are not met (green).
- Row 13 to 19: If these are available at all. Airlines such as Lufthansa do without rows 13 and 17, many others do without row 13, to avoid people booking these seats reluctantly out of superstition. The seats in the wing area only offer a view of the wings. As with the seats in front, there is less turbulence due to the centre of gravity (yellow).
- Rows 20 to 29: Apart from the window seats, there is nothing unusual here. The further back you get, the shorter the walk to the toilet, but the aircraft is so small that this aspect can actually be ignored.
- Rows 30 to 32: The rows at the end of the aircraft. The route to the toilet is shortest here in Economy Class, but it is also the busiest, as queues often form in front of the toilet. In the event of minor accidents, the probability of survival is highest here. Otherwise, these are not particularly popular seats. Row 32, or the last row in general, also has the disadvantage that the seats cannot be folded back.
Differences between the airlines
We have tried to illustrate the different layouts and configurations in which the aircraft are operated using the menu. For example, easyjet does not offer Business Class in the A320, so the seats are arranged differently and the recommendation for the best seat is different. The airlines also offer a different number of Business Class seats, so the recommendation changes here too. Simply use the menu to select the desired airline. It may be that the layout of the airlines has changed in the meantime, but this does not change the basic recommendation of where the seat is located.
Recommendation for the seat in the A320
The best seat naturally depends on many factors. For example, whether you are travelling alone, as a couple or in a group. With this overview, we want to give you an idea of the arguments in favour of a seat or against a choice of seat. Of course, not all seats are always available and so you have to weigh up which seat is the right one for you at check-in.
